Frequently Asked Questions about Enrollment
Q: What does it mean to be on the waiting list?
A: You are on the waiting list for the application. When you enter your information into the waiting list system, this allows our Admissions Department to review your program qualifications. Once a space is available in your child’s age-appropriate classroom, you will be invited to apply to the Heritage Early Learning Academy program. If you are invited to apply for the program, you are removed from the waiting list, whether you apply or not.
Please Note: If you submit your information in our system multiple times, it does not help your chances of an invitation to apply. The department will simply delete the multiples and keep the first entry.
Q: What does an application mean?
A: Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment. An interview, observation, and financial review are all required to complete the application process. An admission decision is provided by the Admissions Review Committee after your application is complete.
Q: How long will I have to wait on the waiting list?
A: There is no set amount of time a child can be on the waiting list. Our Waitlist Plus system will automatically ask you via email if you would like to remain on the waitlist. Simply say YES and your child will remain on the waitlist for his/her age-appropriate class. The only time a child is removed by the system is if the child has aged out of K4.
Q: Why does my number seem to shift on the waiting list?
A: Heritage Early Learning Academy places priority on children who live in Richmond County and qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Income guidelines are enforced and confirmed before enrollment to ensure we are meeting our mission.
-What does this mean for higher-income families? If you are a higher-income family, you will not be provided priority. This means that you will see your number drop as higher need families take a higher position on the waitlist. This does not mean that you will not have an opportunity to apply, but you will see your number shift downward while on the list. The Academy does accept a strict percentage of higher income or private pay families when space permits.
